Cannabis has long been big business in Colorado, but Denver has some exciting new options for consumption spaces to bring people together.
Colorado legalized the sale and possession of adult-use cannabis back in 2012, the first state to do so. Legalization created an economic boom, funding schools and other state projects, and driving tourism to Colorado. CO earned a lot of $ from cannabis, directly and indirectly.
But at the same time, actually smoking flower is largely prohibited in Colorado except in private backyards – exposing renters and visitors to the threat of criminal prosecution, and limiting the types of gatherings that can be planned.
I had visited Tetra Lounge, Denver’s first legal consumption lounge, on a previous visit. In June 2025, I tried new options recently licensed by Denver: the Canna CabanaBus and Cirrus Social Club.
CannaBus
The Canna CabanaBus is one of a handful of such mobile cannabis lounge services now licensed in Denver. It can be hired to join an event and park on the street (akin to a food truck); it can also be hired to travel like a party bus.
Inside, the back area is set up with benches, fun lighting, aggressive filtration and blacked-out windows to allow for a secure indoor sesh.
You’ll need to have visited one of Denver’s many dispensaries, as they do not provide cannabis itself. I had purchased some lovely Blue Dream earlier that day, and we got that rolled up and passed around to new friends even as a thunderstorm rolled in outside.

Cirrus Social Club
The next night, I checked out Denver’s second licensed consumption lounge, Cirrus Social Club. It’s a beautiful dining room with chandeliers and a grand piano – no grungy vibes here!
The menu features a curated selection of strains of flower, including one low-THC option for newbies. I opted for the flight and was treated to an experience akin to a winery visit. Love their handmade rose bongs!
Cirrus also offers food, so you can make your visit a dinner or happy hour. I tried the deviled eggs and the customizable PB&J.

The owner told me they have many women visitors and a lot of multi-generational groups (parents sesh free on Sundays, among other special events). I appreciated their commitment to educating consumers, especially as I can see this being a place that those who have not consumed often can feel welcome and guided in the experience.
You do not need to bring cannabis – they are licensed to sell it to you for on-site consumption and also have a to-go menu so you can bring home a favorite strain. Look for happy hour specials Thursdays 4-6 PM on both flower and food to reduce the cost.

The Upshot
I returned to Minnesota intrigued by the possibilities. Minnesota does not currently offer any “consumption lounge” licenses, mobile or otherwise.
Colorado realized the benefit of this license type long after legalizing, and amended its laws. We need the option of safe, warm places to smoke in the winter even more than Colorado.
